slow BIKE RACE
SATURDAY, JUNE 6 @ NE Corner of Block 34
9:30 Bike Decorating | 10:00 Bike Parade | 10:30 Slow Bike Race
This isn't just any bike race, it's a SLOW bike race- a race to a finish line that is won by being the slowest in the group. If you are really good at "hovering" on your bike, you stand a chance to win a prize! Join us just before the slow bike race for a decorated bike parade, too!
Bike decorating & parade
Kids (and kids at heart!), bring your bike and helmet and join us in decorating our bicycles before a decorated bike parade around Block 34! Join us at the corner of 8th and Husband at 9:30 AM- decorations will be provided but you are encouraged to bring any supplies you wish to use. Turtle themes are encouraged!
Line up for the parade at 10:00 AM. We will start at the corner of 8th and Duncan and proceed around Block 34. Follow the parade leader, show off your decorated bike, and enjoy the ride around Block 34! Goody bags will be available for participants in the Dancing Turtle Bike Parade.
Slow Bike race
What is a Slow Bike Race?? It is a race to a finish line that you win by being the slowest in the group. So if you are really good at “hovering” on your bike, you could be good at this! A new challenge this year will include 3 “obstacles” that participants have to attempt along the way. They will have to ring a bell, drop a “turtle” in a bucket pond, and limbo under a “vine”
There is a prize for the slowest rider for each age group.
All participants must be 12 years or older. Adults are encouraged to participate. There will be two categories, one for 12-14 year olds and another for 15 and older. Bikes may be decorated before the event. Turtle-themed decorations are encouraged!
Riders will gather at the corner of 8th and Husband at 10:30 AM. Observers can cheer on the riders and contribute to the best decorated bike. Money collected will go toward Payne County Youth Services.
Race rules
-
Riders must use a regular 2-wheeled bike. Helmets are required.
-
Riders must ride in their lane, going forward at all times. They cannot go backwards or across the lane lines.
-
Riders must attempt three obstacles along the way: turtle drop, bell ring and limbo. Successful completion of each obstacle drops your time, which is a good thing.
-
There is a consolation mark; if no one makes it that far, then there may be a second "heat".
-
Touching the ground with feet or hands disqualifies the racer.
-
The winner is the last person across the finish line. If no one crosses the finish line, the last person still riding will be declared the winner. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the slowest qualifying rider in each age group.
Let the creativity roll!
